TRAVEL INSPIRATION

The Vacation You Think You Want...
Might Not Be the One You'll Love Most

A quiet infinity pool overlooking mountains at sunset, with empty lounge chairs and warm golden light creating a calm, reflective travel moment.

I’m sitting here with my morning coffee — the kind that’s almost too warm to hold but somehow makes me feel grounded — thinking about how often we convince ourselves we know exactly what kind of vacation we want.

And as I sit here, I realize something: the vacations you dream about aren’t always the ones that actually fill us up.

It usually starts with a picture in our heads.

A trendy destination.

A place everyone seems to be talking about.

Something that looks great in a reel and even better when you say it out loud.

Maybe the vacation you’ve been picturing isn’t the one you actually need right now. Maybe the version you’ve been chasing is more about expectation than alignment.

Because sometimes the trip you end up loving most looks like this — quiet, warm, unhurried, and nothing like the glossy version you thought you wanted. It’s the kind of moment that surprises you in the best way.

And listen, I get it. I’ve done it too. There’s something comforting about choosing the trip that feels “right” because it’s familiar, popular, or easy to explain.

But here’s the thing I’ve learned — both from planning travel and from my own little life lessons — the vacation you think you want isn’t always the one you’ll actually love most.

Sometimes it’s just the one you’ve been told to want.

A narrow cobblestone street lined with small historic houses, softly lit in warm light, creating a quiet and charming travel moment.

I've watched people chase the buzzy destinations

the Amalfi summers, the Bali retreats, the “I need to be on that island because everyone else is” moments. And sure, those places are stunning. They’re iconic for a reason.

But popularity doesn’t automatically mean it’s aligned with you.

Over time, I’ve noticed something: the trips people think they want often look nothing like the ones they end up loving most. Someone who swears they need sunshine might actually come alive in a misty mountain lodge. A traveler who dreams of the classic European itinerary might find their heart tugged by a tiny coastal town they never expected to adore.

Not because I’ve personally guided them there — but because this is what happens when people finally give themselves permission to choose what feels right instead of what looks right.

It’s Not About the Destination — It’s About the Feeling

This is the part most people skip. They choose a place before choosing a feeling.

Do you want to feel unrushed?

Do you want to feel taken care of?

Do you want to feel inspired, grounded, playful, disconnected, reconnected?

Because the right vacation meets you where you are, not where you think you should be.

Sometimes that’s a cruise with a perfectly curated itinerary.

Sometimes it’s a boutique hotel in a city you’ve never heard of.

Sometimes it’s a slow, meandering trip with no agenda except “let’s see what happens.”

The magic isn’t in the marketing.

It’s in the match.

And that’s the thing — the feeling you’re craving doesn’t always match the category you think you belong to. You might picture a beach but find yourself drawn to culture. You might say you want adventure when what you really need is rest. Some travelers thrive in fast‑paced cities; others soften in slow, quiet towns. First‑time international travelers, families, couples — everyone has their own version of what feels right. And it rarely fits neatly into the boxes we’re told to choose from.

The best trips I've ever planed — and the ones people tell me they loved most — were never the obvious choices.

They were the “maybe…” destinations. The ones that didn’t scream for attention but whispered

whispered something intriguing. The places that felt like a match, not a performance.

Travel should surprise you.

It should shift something.

It should give you a version of yourself you didn’t know you needed.

And that rarely comes from choosing a vacation based on what’s trending.

Travel isn’t just about where you go — it’s about who you get to be while you’re there.

If You’re Not Sure What You Actually Want…

That’s Okay

Most people aren’t.

That’s why I love these conversations — the ones where we sit down, sip something warm, and talk about what you’re craving beneath the surface.

Not the trip that looks good.

The trip that feels good.

The one you’ll remember because it met you exactly where you were in that season of your life.

So if you’re dreaming about your next getaway, pull up a chair. Let’s figure out the vacation you’ll actually love most — not just the one you think you’re supposed to want. And if you feel that little tug — that quiet “maybe…” — you can reach out through my inquiry form. That’s where the real conversation begins.

Happy Travels!
